July 4th
Let us all celebrate our Nation's
Birthday w/peace and love !
Just 5 weeks
till the DSR reopens (August 8th)! I'm already getting the
"itch" sitting here tying flies and prepping my equipment!
This Summer ,so far, has been colder and wetter than Summer's in
the recent past and I'm looking forward to an early start of the
King's and Coho's to make their Fall migration. Imagine sitting
on a stack of flat rocks just below the "Joss hole" waiting at
daybreak for the first tell-tale signs of that 1st King Salmon
splashing it's way up river or spotting a deer drinking the cool
water streamside. Feel the "rush" that you get anticipating a
salmon stopping ,just long enough for you to get up ,make a
false cast and then placing your fly perfectly and hoping the
fish attacks - fish on! 30,40 ,45 yards of line screaming off
your reel -rod bent to it's breaking point, an eruption of
silver and foam as the salmon runs and leap's to free itself!
Each August I spend walking/fishing the DSR renews my
spirit and allows me to appreciate this Great Fishery here in
Central New York! Stay turned for another chapter of Trophy
Angling...

This is a picture from August '07 that best illustrates
the above paragraph!

Here is a August King-hours out of the lake, pure Silver!

harvested the eggs needed for our future fishery!

Here you see steelhead being sorted to be put
in separate tanks

The tank on the right has males that are being
sedated

The oblong tank is holding females ready for egg
harvest

The hens are stripped of their eggs and then...

The males make their contribution!

The fertilized eggs are now ready to be taken to
another room for incubation !
3-4 years later we have .......

Look closely- you'll see very large Steelhead ready
to spawn!

a Steelie bites??
